black market baby

Eight different lineups (at least!). Fifteen or more people in the band's inner circle. Twelve years. Lots of chemicals. You better believe there's some confusion surrounding the various incarnations of Black Market Baby. Here's the info I've got, retrieved from moldy fanzines, incomplete press clippings, and fuzzy memories...

1980 - 1981 (MK I)

Boyd Farrell - vocals
Keith Campbell - guitar
Paul Cleary - bass
Tommy Carr - drums

John Bailey - manager
John Blessing - roadie

Records: Potential Suicide 7", V/A - Connected LP, Crimes of Passion 7"
First Show: Feb. 1980 at Madam's Organ w/Tru Fax (or earlier/later? with a different name?)
Last Show: March 6, 1981 at the UMD Ballroom?
Notes: The band were practicing, sans name, in late '79 and early '80 in Trenchmouth's rehearsal space, with Trenchmouth's bassist, with Trenchmouth's manager and drummer watching. Boyd ended up swiping everything except the rehearsal space—a good thing for Charlie Danbury, Trenchmouth's vocalist, since that's where he lived!

1981 - 1982 (MK IIa)

Boyd Farrell - vocals
Keith Campbell - guitar
Mike Dolfi - bass
Tommy Carr - drums

Records:
First Show: spring '81 (April 24 at the latest)
Last Show: late summer '82? (Last I can find is Aug. 11 at the Mill with White Zombies, Social Suicide, Double O, Negative Approach, the Necros, and the Meatmen. The show was shut down at the very start of the Necros' set and the Meatmen didn't get to play.)
Notes: The band split briefly before reforming.
